Medina #4

... a prayer at Quba
equals the reward of an
Omrah ...
Quba Mosque

From the Thaur cave in Makkah, Mohammad (pbuh) travelled for 7 days (mostly in the night) to reach Medina. He was accompanied by his trusted companion, Abu Bakr. The camel journey was guided by Abdullah Uraiqit, a non Muslim. He was received by the Medinites (of the Aws & Khazraj tribes) at a place called Quba. Mohammad stayed in Quba for 3 days. Together with his Makkan and new Medinite companions, they built the first mosque ( in the history of Islam ) at Quba. Date palm trunks, branches and leaves were the building materials.

A visit to the Quba Mosque is highly recommended to Omrah pilgrims. The mosque today is no more made of date palm trunks and leaves but a new modern concrete structure that certainly does justice to the mosque which signifies the birth (and growth) of Islam in Medina.

The Decree

The decree by the Malay Rulers was surrendered to the MCKK emissaries at the palace of the Sultan of Perak at Bukit Chandan. In full ceremonial tradition, the emissaries rode on elephants and delivered the decree letter to the Agong.
